The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, has announced the integration of the National Assessment and the Academic Competency Test starting in 2026. The policy aims to reduce the number of exams students must take while maintaining meaningful evaluation standards.

The integration applies only at the technical level of implementation. The National Assessment will continue to function as a system level evaluation tool, while the Academic Competency Test will remain an individual based assessment measuring students academic achievement and supporting merit based school admissions.

According to Muhammad Yusro, Secretary of the National Curriculum and Assessment Standards Agency, the policy is intended to prevent students from being overloaded with multiple examinations that serve similar purposes.

For elementary and junior secondary students, the integrated assessments will take place in April 2026. Sixth and ninth grade students will be tested in Mathematics and Indonesian Language literacy, along with character and learning environment surveys.

Although participation in the Academic Competency Test is voluntary, student interest has been strong. Within five days of registration opening on January 19, 2026, approximately 2.8 million students had already registered.

To support preparation, the ministry has launched the Ayo Coba TKA platform, allowing students to experience official practice tests across different education levels.

Through this integration, the government expects a more efficient, objective, and student friendly assessment system that supports educational quality without increasing academic pressure.
