The Indonesian film industry has started 2026 with an extraordinary achievement. "Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!" has not only cemented its position as the highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time but is now also on the verge of breaking the absolute box office record in the country.

After 58 days of screening, official data shows that this film directed by Muhadkly Acho has been watched by 10.9 million viewers. This fantastic number places it as the closest challenger to "Avengers: Endgame," which holds the record for the highest number of viewers in Indonesia with 10,976,338. The gap is now only about 76,000 tickets.

"We are immensely grateful and did not expect audience enthusiasm to be this high. This is positive energy for our film industry," said the film's producer via an official social media post.

This achievement is the peak of the film's phenomenal journey. Previously, "Agak Laen" successfully displaced the animated film "Jumbo" from the position of highest-grossing Indonesian film, which had also taken over the record from "KKN di Desa Penari." Its success was a major contributor to the total number of Indonesian film viewers in 2025, which surpassed 80 million.

The film's success is analyzed to stem from its fresh and authentic comedy formula. The story of four failed detectives investigating a case in a nursing home, delivered with great chemistry by Boris Bokir, Indra Jegel, Oki Rengga, and Bene Dion, has successfully resonated with various demographics. Acho's directorial style, which is loose and full of social satire, is considered very fitting for contemporary audience tastes.

"The 'Agak Laen' phenomenon proves that quality local content that resonates with audiences has extraordinary mass appeal. This gives great hope for other Indonesian films," said a film critic.

As of late January 2026, the film is still showing in various cinemas. With its momentum still strong, the chance to make history as the film with the highest number of viewers of all time in Indonesia—surpassing Hollywood blockbusters—is becoming more real. This achievement is not just a number but a statement about the strength and potential of the domestic film market.
