The Palestinian Prisoners' Information Office recently revealed that the number of Palestinians detained without charges in Israeli prisons has reached the highest level ever recorded. According to an Aljazeera report on Monday (July 7, 2025), the number has increased to over 3,600, which is deemed a "dangerous" situation.

Most of these detainees are apprehended through a quasi-judicial process known as administrative detention. In this system, they can be imprisoned for six months without charges, and this detention can be extended indefinitely.

Sexual Abuse in Detention

Cases of sexual abuse in Israeli prisons have also come to light. One former detainee, Said Abdel Fattah, testified before the UN, sharing his traumatic experiences. "I was humiliated and tortured," he stated, as reported by Al-Jazeera on Wednesday (March 12).

Fattah explained that during his two months of detention, he endured brutal treatment, including being stripped in cold weather and threats of rape. A similar account was given by another individual, Mohamed Matar, who experienced torture at the hands of security personnel in the West Bank, while Israeli police refused to offer assistance.

At that time, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that there is "zero tolerance" for perpetrators of sexual abuse. A leaked CCTV video aired by Channel 12 showed Israeli soldiers selecting detainees at the Sde Teiman base, where they engaged in sexual acts against detainees during the conflict in Gaza. Miller confirmed that U.S. officials had viewed the video and were conducting a review.
