The Jakarta High Court has increased the prison sentence for former Supreme Court official Zarof Ricar from 16 to 18 years. Zarof was found guilty of criminal conspiracy in a bribery attempt involving a Supreme Court judge handling the murder case of Gregorius Ronald Tannur, as well as accepting illicit gratification.
Chief Judge Albertina Ho announced that Zarof would serve 18 years in prison and pay a fine of IDR 1 billion or face an additional six months in jail. The court also seized IDR 915 billion and 51 kilograms of gold as state evidence, and ruled that Zarof remain in detention.
Previously, Zarof was sentenced to 16 years for violating Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Law, specifically Article 6(1) in conjunction with Article 15, and Article 12B with Article 18. He was proven to have conspired with lawyer Lisa Rachmat to bribe Supreme Court Judge Soesilo.
The Attorney General’s Office appealed the initial ruling, particularly opposing the decision to return IDR 8.8 billion to Zarof. They are currently awaiting the official copy of the appeal decision before taking further action.
The case escalated after prosecutors discovered IDR 920 billion in cash and 51 kilograms of gold during a search of Zarof's residence. The ongoing investigation revealed suspected bribery in case handling at both the Jakarta High Court and the Supreme Court between 2023 and 2025.
Zarof allegedly received IDR 1 billion as a fee out of IDR 6 billion for bribes at the appellate level, and another IDR 5 billion for the Supreme Court case. He is accused of collaborating with Lisa Rachmat and Isidorus Iswardojo, who have also been named suspects.
