Effendi Simbolon, Chairman of Punguan Simbolon dohot Boruna Indonesia (PSBI), emphasized that PSBI, a Batak clan association established since July 7, 2007, is not merely an organization but a platform to uphold Batak traditional values within the spirit of national unity. Effendi conveyed this during PSBI’s 18th Anniversary celebration held at The Ballroom, Pondok Indah Golf Course Jakarta, Monday (7/7).
“PSBI is a Batak indigenous community organization based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution, guided by the Dalihan Na Tolu philosophy,” said Effendi in his speech before Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and about 700 PSBI members and board officials.
He explained that Dalihan Na Tolu is not just a customary concept but a noble value that shapes Batak ways of life, teaching them to respect, embrace, and maintain harmonious social ties.
“We are taught to respect our wife’s family, embrace our broader kin, and mind our words to avoid offense,” Effendi added.
For Effendi, PSBI’s 18th anniversary is not only a celebration but also a moment of reflection to strengthen Batak cultural identity and the spirit of mutual cooperation. PSBI now unites about 300,000 members across Indonesia and abroad.
“The Pesta Bolon that we regularly hold, even once in Bali, proves that Batak culture can harmoniously coexist with other local cultures,” he noted.
Closing his remarks, Effendi sought Vice President Gibran’s blessing and invited him to visit their ancestral land in Samosir Island.
“Mr. Vice President, we kindly invite you to visit Samosir, our Bona Pasogit, the birthplace of the Batak people and the root of our cultural identity,” Effendi concluded.
Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran expressed his appreciation for PSBI’s role in preserving cultural heritage and strengthening national unity.
“Cultural values are our wealth that must be safeguarded together. Our diversity unites and strengthens us as a nation,” Gibran said.
He also hopes PSBI will keep innovating to stay relevant, especially by involving the younger generation.
“I hope PSBI continues to develop work programs that reinforce cultural values and unity. Engage more youth so PSBI remains relevant and adaptive,” he emphasized.
On the occasion, Gibran also delivered warm greetings from President Prabowo Subianto, who was on an official trip to Brazil. He added that the government is preparing priority programs such as the People’s School and Red and White Cooperative, which are expected to be supported by PSBI and all communities.
