The Serie A standings have shifted after Sassuolo suffered a surprising defeat to bottom-ranked Genoa in week 10 of the Italian League on Monday (Nov 3).

Playing at home, Sassuolo fell 1-2 to Genoa, a painful result for Jay Idzes and his teammates who were aiming to break into the top 10.

Ruslan Malinovskyi opened the scoring for Genoa in the 18th minute with a powerful strike. Sassuolo equalized through Domenico Berardi’s first-time shot early in the second half, but disaster struck in injury time when Leo Ostigard’s header secured the dramatic victory for Genoa.

This defeat pushed Sassuolo down to 12th place in the Serie A standings with 13 points. Had they won, they could have climbed to eighth position.

For Genoa, the away victory was crucial — earning them a much-needed three points and helping them rise from the bottom to 18th place.

At the top, Napoli remain Serie A leaders with 22 points, narrowly ahead of Inter Milan, AC Milan, and AS Roma, who are just one point behind.
