Inter Milan secured another vital win in the 2025-2026 Champions League, defeating Kairat Almaty 2-1 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Wednesday night (Nov 5, 2025) local time.
Goals from Lautaro Martinez (45’) and Carlos Augusto (67’) sealed the victory for the Nerazzurri, while Ofri Arad scored for the Kazakh debutants in the 55th minute.
The match proved challenging, marking the first time Inter’s goal was breached in this season’s Champions League — ironically by a debuting team.
Coach Cristian Chivu took full responsibility for the team’s shaky performance. “It took us half the match to react. As the coach, I failed to instill the right mentality. Attitude matters in games like this,” Chivu told Sky Sport Italia.
Chivu: I Must Work Harder
Chivu admitted his team struggled to maintain intensity and lost focus at key moments. He refused to blame the tight schedule for their inconsistent form.
“I know we play every three days, but that’s no excuse. We must perform better,” said the Romanian coach.
Despite claiming three important points, Chivu emphasized that the team still needs mental and tactical improvements. “We’ll take the points because they’re crucial for our position, but the next four games will be much tougher. There’s no easy match in the Champions League,” he added.
The 44-year-old coach stressed that the responsibility lies with him. “I need to work harder, not the players. It’s my job to find the right words and motivation to boost their focus and attitude,” Chivu concluded.
Lautaro’s Role and Team Rotation
Lautaro Martinez only played in the first half before being replaced by Ange-Yoan Bonny, as Chivu rotated his squad to maintain player fitness amid a tight schedule.
