During a peaceful demonstration in defense of Palestine at the Horse Statue, traffic on West and South Merdeka Square was temporarily closed.

A peaceful rally in support of Palestine took place at Patung Kuda, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (October 12, 2025), prompting authorities to temporarily close Medan Merdeka Barat and Medan Merdeka Selatan streets.

According to a post from @TMCPoldaMetro on X (Twitter), the demonstration began around 07:36 AM local time near the traffic light area of Patung Kuda Monas. “A peaceful pro-Palestine demonstration is currently taking place at Patung Kuda, Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta,” the post stated.

Police urged motorists to find alternative routes to avoid congestion in the area. As of now, it remains unclear how long the road closure will continue.

“Traffic on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat and Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan is temporarily closed. We urge road users to take alternative routes,” police said.

The rally drew participation from various community groups voicing solidarity with the Palestinian people and calling for an end to the violence in Gaza.
